Article Writing Made Simple

Are you intimidated by article writing? If you have your own website, you’ve probably heard that “content is king”. Where will you get your content? In your mind, you may be seeing dozens, or even hundreds of blank pages in cyberspace, not so different from the stack of empty white paper years ago if you attempted to write a novel or a report on a typewriter.

Article writing doesn’t have to be a stumbling block to your web success. If you really hate writing, you can outsource to a ghostwriter, assuming you have funds available for this purpose. But it is possible for you to create content yourself, and it will get easier the more you practice.

Grab the reader’s attention as early as possible. An attention-grabbing headline is one tool for this purpose. Your first paragraph can also serve as a hook. Induce curiosity in your reader, and a desire to know more. Also in the first paragraph, write a summary of what is about to be covered in the article. Introduce the problem addressed in the article and how the article is going to solve the problem.

For the body of the article, keep in mind the typical questions asked by all writers: Who? What? Where? When? Why? These questions can be further expanded, such as Who am I writing about? Who am I writing to? What problem am I trying to solve and why? Keep the readers’ interest by adding personal stories and humor. Write from the heart.

The most important points you want to make should be stated as early in the article as possible. Keep in mind when writing for the internet that people read quickly online. The internet is the path to instant answers. Most readers skim the article content and don’t read every word. Simple, short paragraphs are more appealing to most website visitors than long blocks of text. Avoid difficult words wherever possible.

The final paragraph summarizes what has already been discussed in the article and ties it altogether. So the pattern of a typical article can be described as:

1. Tell them what you’re going to tell them

2. Tell them

3. Tell them what you told them

Simple, isn’t it? Article writing is simple, and you can do it. Remember that there is no such thing as perfection and that you aren’t out to win any kind of journalism award. Remember also that no matter how shaky your first few articles might be, you’ll definitely get better the more you write. Keep practicing!
