Focus on Forums

There are a lot of advantages to participating in forums, such as obtaining free information and advice, and getting free targeted traffic to your website. A forum or discussion group is a group of people who congregate and talk about the things they share a passion for. Human beings are social by nature, and the internet makes reaching out to each other easier than ever. Each is usually focused on a particular topic, or niche.

You can find a discussion group on a particular niche by doing a search on google.com for a particular niche plus the word forum. For example for a forum on parenting, input “parenting+forum”.

At forums, you can get free advice, tips and tools. You can ask questions about any aspect of marketing, and you can ask for opinions about a product before purchasing it. You can make contact with others and possibly set up joint ventures. Forums can be a great way to advertise yourself and your business, and posting to forums can lead to free targeted traffic. Posting to forums is one of the most effective free internet marketing strategies – if done correctly.

Familiarize yourself with the rules. It is important to know whether URLs can be included in postings or confined to signature files. Most forums allow you to have a signature file, where you can include the URL to your website. Search engines are constantly indexing forums, so if you post frequently, these links will bring you a lot of free traffic. Some forums only allow sig files after a member has created a certain number, sometimes as high as 100, valid posts. Some forums don’t allow sig files at all.

It is important that you have a personal interest in the main topic of the forum. If you approach a forum purely with the intention of obtaining free marketing, you will not be welcome. Forums are not marketplaces.

Pick and choose which forums to join in order to make the most productive use of your time. Study each forum carefully before you join. Check their guidelines, theme and the level of knowledge and experience the users have. Choose popular forums by checking the page rank and number of active members. Choose forums that allow signature files.
