Should You Build a Mini Site or a Content Based Site?
Once you decide to create your own website, your next choice is whether to create a mini site or a content based site.
Mini Sites
A mini site is simple to create and can be completed in a minimum amount of time. It has a very narrow focus such as selling one product, service or affiliate program. Many mini sites are nothing but a one page sales letter, but can be as long as four or five pages. The main disadvantage to a this type of site is that it is difficult for search engines to spider so it is hard to rank highly. A mini site is often used for short term promotions, not for establishing long term relationships with readers. They are promoted through pay per click search engines. On the positive side, they can quickly build affiliate profits through their tight focus.
The guru of mini site creation is Phil Wiley. If you have any interest at all in creating a mini site, his book is in the must have category. For a thorough description of mini sites and how to become profitable using them, read his book

Content Based Sites
A content based site is more time consuming to create but usually more search engine friendly. Once you have picked a topic as described in
"Finding Your Niche",
the next step is to make a list of keywords based on the theme you’ve chosen. A page is then created for each keyword, enabling visitors to find your site from many points. This leads to higher traffic, more link popularity and better rankings. This is a slower process than creating a mini site, but there really is no such thing as getting rich quick. The slow process of building a content based site is like a snowball rolling down the hill – your traffic increases gradually as more and more search engines spider individual pages.
The process of creating a content based site is simplified by Ken Evoy in his free guide
